A person has been taken to hospital after being cut free from a car following a three-vehicle crash in Seaham.

Emergency services were called to Station Road at around 6.05pm on Monday to reports of a traffic collision.

Police cordoned off the street as the North East Ambulance Service dispatched a specialist paramedic, a rapid response paramedic, a hazardous area response team and an ambulance to the scene.

Further assistance was required from firefighters to extricate a casualty trapped in a car involved in the crash.

They were then passed on to paramedics for medical treatment before being transported to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Two other patients were also treated at the scene after sustaining minor injuries.
