A person was critically injured in an attack on a CTA Blue Line train Friday afternoon in Oak Park.

Police from the west suburb responded about 1:30 p.m. to the Austin station in the 700 block of South Austin Boulevard for calls of an aggravated battery, according to Oak Park police said. Witnesses said a person had either been struck with a hammer or stabbed with a knife during the incident on an inbound train.

The injured person was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood with head and eye trauma, police said. They were in critical condition but have since stabilized.

The attacker was described as wearing a dark-hooded jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers and a blue surgical mask, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oak Park police at 708-386-3800.
