A social media content creator has been accused of choking his brother and assaulting his father in a "persistent and violent act of family violence".
The 23-year-old, who has not been named to protect the identity of the alleged victims, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13.
He is yet to enter pleas to charges of aggravated common assault, aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intentionally and unlawfully choking, suffocating, or strangling another person.
The court heard the three had been living at the same address "for some time" before the man's alleged assault on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the man's defence lawyer applied for bail on his behalf, saying strict conditions could ameliorate any risk to community safety.
She told the court the man is a social media content creator, has no prior criminal record, and there was nothing before the court to suggest he wouldn't comply with bail conditions.
She added that he could stay at his partner's home in Hughes while on bail.
However, prosecutor Sophia Newton opposed bail on the grounds that he posed a risk to the safety or welfare of the alleged victims.
"What is in the allegations before Your Honour is a persistent and violent act of family violence," she said, further alleging the man choked his brother until he was briefly rendered unsensible.
She said there were three distinct acts of family violence that persisted despite intervention from their father.
Chief Magistrate Louise Taylor granted the man bail under strict conditions, noting there was no suggestion the alleged victims had been subjected to such conduct before.
She also said she was not satisfied there was a real likelihood of him endangering anyone's safety, adding that bail conditions, including that he not contact his brother or father, could address any perceived risk.
His case will return to court in September.
