Persimmon construction director returns to his Nottingham roots

A housing construction expert has returned to his roots after taking up the position of construction director with Persimmon Homes Nottingham.

Adrian Smith, who has more than 26 years of industry experience, will oversee all building by the firm across the region.

Having spent the past 15 years of his career travelling to Northampton, the 51-year-old is now returning to his roots after transferring from the Persimmon Homes Midlands region, where he had held the same director role for 11 years.

Starting his career as a joiner, Adrian joined Barratt Homes Nottingham in the 1990s. He swiftly moved up the ranks from assistant site manager to construction director, scooping an array of NHBC awards in the process.

Accepting a role in Northampton, Adrian then embarked on his daily commute down the M1.

He said: “I feel very fortunate to be now working closer to home, but I am not really an office man - I much prefer to be out on site seeing the build quality for myself and speaking to the team, so I am still travelling, but much shorter distances now.”

Persimmon Homes is currently building 11 developments across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and is set to begin construction on a further six sites this year in locations including Eastwood, Darley Dale, Bolsover and Calverton.

Adrian said: “Having been a construction director for many years, I have a good understanding of what is expected of me and I am working on sharing my experience with the team. A new job will always bring new challenges, but the principles remain the same – quality and care - and this is my focus.”

Neil Follows, managing director at Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: "We are very pleased to welcome Adrian to our team. His hands-on approach and years of expertise is a huge asset to my team."
