If you are looking to catch the shower tonight ( August 12-13) then you need to be up in the early hours of the morning and follow our advice straight from the experts at NASA.

The early hours of the morning are definitely the best for spotting as many meteors as possible.

1. Go somewhere dark and for 30 minutes before peak times

You aren't seeing anything in the daylight - wait for total darkness and get away from the light.

It's best to be in place for a while before seeing the meteors so as to ensure your eyes adjust.

2. Make sure it is away from artificial light

Importantly, even if you have no lights on, the pollution from nearby artificial light (street lamps, building lights) will definitely ruin your view.

3. Do not use a telescope or binoculars

There's such an array to see, you don't want to narrow your viewpoint with these devices.

4. Lie down

The best way to see as much as possible is to lie on your back to take in the night's sky.

5. Take it all in

It's nature at its most simple and finest - no need for further distractions. Just drink it all in.
