Perrie Edwards defends Little Mix's sexy lyrics as Confetti sparks controversy

Perrie Edwards has defended the lyrics on Little Mix's incredible new album after suggestions some songs were too racy for young fans.

The group's new record Confetti is sending pulses racing but it left some parents feeling too hot under the collar.

Perrie, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock used "their own sexual energy" to write the songs.

Now Perrie has addressed concerns that some lines are too much for their younger fans.

The singer says the sometimes want to talk about "naughty things".

Speaking openly to Metro.co,uk, Perrie said: "I think there’s a way of doing it, there’s being really cheeky and being a bit naughty but not full out saying it.

"It’s just getting clever with the lyrics and I think we’ve done that a lot in the past because we know we have a young fan base but we’re women.

"We’re mature women, we want to talk about naughty things but we like to respect our fans as well."

The group's chief songwriter Kamille says the girls are coming of age.

Kamille, 32, has managed to get the band to break free from their teen pop image - and she says the results speak for themselves.

She explained: "A big part of that is because the girls are not young anymore. They are grown women who have their own minds, their own sexual energy, and sometimes they wanna just say some s**t!”

The new album has been described as "sensational" and a "2020 saver" by fans (perrieedwards/Instagram)

"It’s been a journey, having to keep it super PG. I’m definitely someone who always wants to push that, and we have with this new album.

"I do like making things a bit controversial – I think that’s what sells and what catches people’s ear."

There will be no Jesy joining the girls on stage on Sunday night.

She was meant to co-host the EMAs with her bandmates, but was forced to pull out due to illness on Saturday.
