Permission given for Grade A office development near Nottingham Train Station

A Grade A glass-fronted office block will be built on derelict land near  Nottingham Train Station , it has been confirmed.

Nottingham City Council granted planning permission for the seven-storey development, which will be named Crocus Place , in the city's southside area.

The decision will transform the vacant site next to the tram lines at Nottingham Train Station and will provide space for an estimated 1,150 workers, reports Nottinghamshire Live .

It is is the latest proposal for the Southside area, along with Unity Square, Station Street and City Buildings transforming the area with construction underway or due to begin by the end of the year.

The building, which is 125,000sq ft, is set to be built on land which was formerly an operations base for the tram extension.

The approved plans will also have 30 standard car parking bays, two disabled parking bays, four electric vehicle parking bays, 115 cycle parking spaces and four spaces for motorcycles.

The development is expected to open in summer 2021.

The scheme will use solar panels, air source heat pumps and electric car charging points to help minimise energy usage.

Councillor David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “This announcement ensures that the redevelopment of the Southside area of Nottingham continues apace, with plenty of activity in the area represented by the ever-increasing number of cranes in the sky in the area.

“Bringing top end, or Grade A, office space to the city has been a long-term ambition for the city which is now being realised by the hard work of our staff and partners to bring these developments forward.

"As a council we have laid out an ambitious redevelopment plan for the city to bring jobs, new businesses and economic growth to this city to benefit everyone living in Nottingham, and today marks another step towards that future.”
