Perm customers may be able to pause payments 'for up to six months'

NEWCASTLE Permanent is offering home loan and small business customers the opportunity to pause payments for up to six months if they have been impacted by COVID-19.

The building society announced it would offer the relief opportunities, which are subject to individual approval and conditions, on Friday afternoon.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Bernadette Inglis said the society had recognised that many people may be financially affected by the impacts of COVID-19.

"With this in mind we are offering relief opportunities for our home loan and small business customers impacted by COVID-19," she said.

"They may seek a request to pause their repayments for up to six months.

"If any of our customers are experiencing financial hardship, we are always here to help with our MemberAssist service.

"Please talk to us if you are in need by calling us on 13 19 87 or visiting our website at www.newcastlepermanent.com.au/supporting-you."

Any loan that has its repayments paused will have the interest capitalised, which means unpaid interest will be added to the outstanding loan balance.

Ms Inglis said customers should seek advice from staff about how those changes would work for their specific circumstances and loan.

She said Newcastle Permanent's specialist home loan lenders, personal loan lenders and financial planners all remain available, including over the phone.
