Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation has reached a milestone of handing out $20 million in grants since its inception in 2003, after announcing its second round of project funding for the year on Thursday. Ronald McDonald House Newcastle was one of 12 recipients of a total of $750,000.
"We received $124,000 so it will allow us to renovate three of our self-contained units that are used for longer stays by families, make them bright, modern and hopefully lift the spirits of families using them," said Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW chief executive officer Ross Bingham.
The foundation is also funding a $44,000 digital out-reach program run by the Autoimmune Research and Resource Centre.
"One of 20 people have an autoimmune condition and they are at risk of social isolation because flairs of symptoms over time are very unpredictable," Foundation chair Phil Neat said.
"We've worked with ARCC to put on regional roadshows about self-care and treatments, but it's a platform with webinars and videos people with autoimmune disorders can access wherever they need them," he said.
Other recipients included Cancer Council NSW, Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW, Little Wings Limited, IRIS Foundation Australia, Mai-Wel Limited, Canobolas Cottage, Batyr Australia Limited, Hunter Youth Mentor Collaborative, MiiMi Aboriginal Corporation and Hunter Surf Lifesaving.
