Perivale fire: 80 firefighters battle blaze as residents told to stay inside

Around 80 firefighters are battling a huge warehouse blaze in west London, with one witness describing the scene as a 'no go zone'.

Half of the first and second floors of the three-storey building in Wadsworth Road, Perivale, are alight.

Some locals have described how thick smoke and 'toxic' fumes are flooding the nearby area.

One witness shared a video of firefighters at the scene, tweeting: "Whole area is really a no go zone. #Perivale"

Vinesh Pomal, from Perivale, added: "Is there an exclusion zone? There are residential properties near by...and the smell is toxic!"

Other people complained about the smoke billowing from the blaze.

Natalie Wall tweeted: "The smoke and smell is so bad."

Another user responded: "I’m smelling this right now as well, it’s a very strong smell out on the stress right now!"

London Fire Brigade tweeted: "Residents in the vicinity of the warehouse fire in #Perivale are advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to heavy smoke in the area."

In a subsquent tweet, the brigade said: "Crews are making steady progress at the scene of the #Perivale warehouse fire. Residents are still advised to keep doors and windows closed as firefighters work to bring the blaze under control."

The brigade's 999 control officers have taken 28 calls about the fire.

Crews were called to the scene at 11.35pm, with 12 fire engines from Wembley, Ealing, Acton, Southall, Stanmore, Park Royal and surrounding fire stations sent to the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
