
Kaidenma-sen boats sail in procession on the Ohashi River in Matsue on Saturday as part of Horan Enya, a Shinto festival. About 100 boats turned out as paddlers' chants of "Ho-ran-ey-ye" echoed across the river. Kengai heroic dancer dressed like kabuki actor performed a brave dance on the bow of each boat, while Zaifuri feminine dancers clad in opulent kimonos danced on the aft peaks, waving bamboo sticks decorated with paper. About 140,000 spectators attended the event.
