Perfect harmony between govt and party, says Karnataka CM ahead of state executive meet

BENGALURU: Amid murmurs of leadership change, yet again, and ahead of the crucial state executive committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said there is a "perfect harmony" between the government and the party.

Feigning ignorance over talks of replacing him, CM Bommai blamed the media for creating such unfound news and said there was no lack of understanding between the party and the government over how to move forward.

"The party and the government are in perfect harmony. We are going to go into the 2023 elections based on the government’s good development work and the party’s collective strength," said Bommai.

The statement from CM Bommai comes 24 hours ahead of the two day BJP state executive committee meeting scheduled in Hubbali for 28 and 29 of this month.

The meeting is scheduled to be attended by the national party president J P Nadda and also Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The meet on December 29 will be preceded a day before by the state core committee meeting and attended by party Karnataka in-charge and national general secretary Arun Singh.

The BJP executive committee meeting is expected to conduct a post-mortem of the Bommai government, the setbacks in recent elections, and decide on its approach towards the BBMP and ZP-TP elections likely to happen next year, a precursor to the 2023 assembly polls.

It is also said the meeting will see the BJP take a call on the Belagavi Jarkiholi brothers who have handed a shock defeat to the BJP MLC candidate at the recently concluded MLC elections from local bodies.

The victory of Lakkhan Jarkiholi as an independent, which was allegedly backed by BJP former ministers and his brothers-- Ramesh and Balachandra Jarkiholi-- has unsettled the party in its stronghold of Belagavi.

When questioned over whether any action is being taken against the two brothers, CM Bommai was cryptic in his response and said: “The party central leadership is aware of all these issues and it will take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time.”
