While the weeks and months leading up to April’s NFL Draft are overrun by mock drafts and team-needs analysis, it’s hard to really nail down what a certain team might do.
There is no telling what the Washington Redskins might actually do come draft day, but ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay project what the “Perfect Draft” would look like in Washington.
Many people have projected the Redskins to select a QB in the first round — be that with the No. 15 pick, or by trading up in the draft should they feel the need to do so — but McShay believes Washington will go another route. In the first round, this mock has former Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf being selected at No. 15.
Metcalf turned heads in college, and his measurements at the NFL Combine were something to behold, but there is no question that this pick would ruffle some feathers, especially if one of the top QB prospects were to still be on the board.
On the other hand, Kiper thinks that the Redskins would be wise to select former Missouri QB Drew Lock with their first-round pick. Washington has been speculated to be looking at Lock throughout the leadup to the draft.
Lock would probably be a relatively fan favorite pick for the Redskins, as they would finally have a potential long-term option at the QB position. What matters, though, is which route the Washington front office chooses to go on Draft Day.
