What millions of social media users witnessed during Perez Hilton's alarming TikTok livestream was only a fraction of the emergency response that followed.
The celebrity blogger's alarming livestream lasted about 34 minutes before disappearing from the platform, but newly released dispatch records and statements from authorities reveal the incident unfolded over four hours as deputies, crisis negotiators, mental health professionals, and Hilton's own representatives worked behind the scenes to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
The incident began Tuesday evening when Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., broadcast a disturbing TikTok Live from his Miami-Dade home. Concerned viewers quickly flooded emergency dispatchers with 911 calls after witnessing behavior that appeared to indicate a mental health crisis.
According to dispatch audio obtained by People, the first emergency call reached the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office at approximately 6:51 p.m. Deputies arrived outside Hilton's residence around 7:10 p.m., while the livestream had already ended for most viewers.
What happened next remained largely unknown until authorities released additional details Wednesday.
Rather than forcing immediate entry into the home, deputies determined Hilton was alone and initiated what the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office described as a crisis intervention strategy. Officials said deputies employed "tactical disengagement," a de-escalation approach commonly used during mental health emergencies to reduce the risk of further harm while specially trained personnel attempt to establish communication.
For roughly four hours after officers first arrived, emergency responders remained at the scene while crisis negotiators and mental health professionals worked to resolve the situation peacefully. Authorities eventually entered the residence around 11 p.m., and Hilton was safely transported to a local hospital for medical treatment at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The prolonged response highlights the stark difference between what the public witnessed online and the hours-long emergency operation unfolding afterward.
While viewers watched about half an hour of livestream footage, deputies, firefighters, mental health specialists and Hilton's representatives were involved in an extended response that continued long after the broadcast disappeared from TikTok.
On Wednesday, Hilton's family and management team released a statement confirming he is receiving medical care while asking for privacy.
"Perez is currently receiving the medical attention he needs. We are grateful for the quick actions of first responders and the outpouring of concern from so many people. This is an incredibly difficult time for Perez and his family, and we respectfully ask for privacy as he focuses on his recovery."
His representatives also acknowledged that they were unable to reach Hilton during the incident, adding to the concern as authorities attempted to make contact inside the home. Longtime attorney and friend Bryan Freedman told People he hoped Hilton was receiving the care he needed and asked for compassion as the family navigates the situation.

TikTok also addressed its handling of the livestream after questions arose about why the broadcast remained online.
The company said its automated systems detected content involving self-harm, but a moderation error delayed removal of the livestream. TikTok said it ultimately removed the content, alerted law enforcement and permanently banned Hilton's account for violating its policies on self-harm content.
The episode has sparked renewed scrutiny of how social media platforms respond to live mental health emergencies, particularly when thousands of users witness events in real time before moderators intervene.
