Perez Hilton says he apologised to Britney Spears two months before documentary

Perez Hilton says he apologised to Britney Spears before the release of The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears.

Britney has been under a conservatorship for more than a decade, with fans demanding she be given her freedom back.

The documentary explores the legalities of a conservatorship and explains how Britney's father, Jamie, came to be in control of her finances as well as her everyday life.

It also follows the way Britney - one of the world's biggest stars - was portrayed by much of the media.

Perez has recently expressed remorse at the way he covered stories about her, revealing he regrets "a lot or most of what I said about Britney".

Now he's told the Chanel in the City with Chanel Omari podcast: "I have also apologised privately recently before the documentary, I don't want to get into details, but I did apologise to Britney recently, in December, I don't need to go into details about how, but, you know, I went through this big emotional break in December, as I talked about in the beginning of the podcast.

"And one of the things that I wanted to do, my idea, not even my therapists was, I felt it was important for me. It's kind of like the things that people often do in 12-step programmes.

"You know, they'll reach out to people that they have wronged and apologise. And even though I had apologised before, there's nothing wrong with apologising again or differently.

"So I did. And she was one of the few people that I reached out to in December."

Since the documentary's release, Britney has been flooded with online support from fans and celebrity pals alike.

Among them have been Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Elli Goulding, Hayley Williams and Sarah Jessica Parker.
