Perdu bouncer cleared in court of assaulting teenage girl

A bouncer has been cleared of assaulting a teenage girl inside Perdu after claiming: 'I was just doing my job'

Otto Prins was sacked by the Diamond Strip bar after Facebook footage of the incident on Halloween last year went viral.

But magistrates cleared the the 53-year-old grandad on Friday.

Newcastle Magistrates' Court heard Lauryn Parker downed up to ten vodkas before ripping the doorman's earpiece from his ear.

It was then claimed she stood and "waited for a reaction" from Mr Prins while saying the f-word at him.

The clip, shot by Miss Parker's friend and viewed over 300k times, was played throughout the trial.

Pictures of the teenager's bruising, which she claimed was inflicted by the defendant, were also shown.

She told the court how, after enjoying "pres", a friend drove them into Perdu where they queued for an hour to get in.

Inside she drank more vodka and sambucca before encountering Mr Prins after slipping on the floor.

"I did nudge into the back but when that happened he grabbed my arms at the back and pushed me on to the stairs," she claimed.

“He was kneeing me on to my legs and on my sides.

“I didn’t know what was happening.”

Miss Parker claimed, at just 5ft 6 and 10st, she was "scared" by the bouncer.

"Well built" Mr Prins was said to be over 6ft and was even likened to the James Bond character 'Jaws'.

But while Miss Parker and two friends both claimed he attacked them, magistrates said there were "inconsistencies" in the evidence.

And the defendant - a doorman since 2000 - claimed he was trying to keep the corridor clear and move Miss Parker from the stairs after she slipped.

But the court heard she had been "making a nuisance of herself", and Mr Prins, from Ryton, strongly denied claims he had pushed her against the stairs or caused her bruising.

“I would not kick anybody,” he maintained.

”I’m there to protect the customers, to have a dance and a drink.”

Prosecutor James Howard repeatedly played the footage and at one point asked Mr Prins: Does that not show your knee going into her four times?”

But he denied it was an attack, insisting he had tried "controlling her" before he could pick her up to remove her.

In the aftermath, the Collingwood Street bar confirmed it had dismissed Mr Prins following an internal probe.

And the Security Industry Authoirty, which regulates door staff, confirmed it had at one stage suspended his licence.

But the Dutchman, of Stella Road, was cleared of a charge of assault by beating.

And during his interview with Northumbria Police at Fourth Banks Station, he maintained he never did it, telling police:“I was just doing my door supervision duties.”
