Peperami jerky is being sold at Tesco - made from both pork and beef

There comes a time in life when we all have to grow up, even Peperamis.

As the famous lunch box snack has just reinvented itself as a new protein-rich, tender jerky.

But rather than sticking to the purely 100% pork sausage that they're known for, the Peperami jerky edition is comprised of a mix of pork and beef that’s been cured, dried and beechwood smoked by the brand's chief meat masters.

The new look meaty concoction moves the brand into new territory, away from nostalgic lunch box stacking to now sitting amongst artisan food brands and fitness products.

But it fits in well, with Peperami noting the meaty concoction's impressively low calories at 75kcals per serving, as well as being low fat and high protein.

There's two flavours to choose from: original - which we assume tastes just like the famous juicy sticks, but in a more dried form - and hot, a favourite amongst spice fans and famous for its "too hot for ya" slogans from our childhood.

Already for sale in Tesco and Asda, they have an RRP of £2.75 per 70g pack, although Tesco are selling them for just £2 right now.

Also at Asda, peperami fans can pick up a three-pack of peperami sausage rolls for £1.50 , or even chicken peperami products, such as southern fried peperami chicken bites for £1.29 , which quite frankly, would all join together to make the picnic of dreams.
