Pepe Serna's onetime Eagle Rock home ready to cast a new owner

May 21--The onetime Eagle Rock home of prolific actor Pepe Serna and his wife, Diane, has come on the market for the first time in nearly two decades.

Serna, known for his role in the grisly chainsaw scene from Brian De Palma's 1983 film "Scarface," maintained the Spanish-style residence in the 1980s and eventually sold the property in 1997 for $360,000. The home, built in the 1920s, now lists for sale at $1.495 million.

Sited on a sloping lot of more than half an acre, the palm-topped house centers on a lagoon-style pool with a raised spa and cascading waterfall feature. Various tiered patios found throughout the grounds take in views of the downtown cityscape and surrounding area.

Within the 2,802 square feet of space is an octagonal entry hall, a formal living/dining room area, an updated kitchen, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Brightly tiled accents lend a Moroccan note to the two-level floor plan, while arched windows and doorways, beamed ceilings and Saltillo tile flooring are in keeping with the original vintage.

Outdoors, a tiled bar set beneath a wood truss ceiling sits adjacent to the pool. A small expanse of grass, a built-in sitting area and a mix of cacti, palms and other drought-tolerant landscaping complete the grounds.

Richard von Ernst of Partners Trust Real Estate is the listing agent.

Serna, 70, has appeared in more than 100 television and film roles over the last four decades including "The Jerk" with Steve Martin and "The Rookie" with Clint Eastwood. More recently, the actor starred in the indie crime film "Man from Reno," directed by Dave Boyal and released this year.
