Pepe's glowing Luis Diaz recommendation is already paying off for Jurgen Klopp

The January signing of Luis Diaz to Liverpool has been a masterstroke, and Jurgen Klopp is already reaping the rewards.

The Colombian was in tears at full-time after Liverpool beat Villarreal 3-2 to progress to the Champions League final, something that he couldn't of dreamed of at Porto just five months ago. But Diaz is far from being carried by Liverpool, as he has been one of the major driving forces since his arrival.

Diaz has shocked the Premier League with how quickly he has hit the ground running, and it looks as though Liverpool have another world-class attacker on their hands. But this comes as no surprise to three-time Champions League winner Pepe, who was blown away by the Colombian back in 2021.

Pepe has played with some of the best during his time at Real Madrid, and the defender is one of the most decorated footballers in the modern game. Therefore, his judgement is more than respected as he knows when a player has what it takes to perform at the highest level.

And the Portuguese star gave a glowing report of Diaz in 2021, after the Colombian began to thrive at Porto. Pepe said: "Luis Díaz is the example of the professionalism and passion we have in playing for FC Porto, we know of the importance of wearing this shirt, and I am proud to share the locker room with Luis Díaz and others."

There's no surprise that interest for Diaz was mounting this season, and Liverpool were reportedly looking to sign him this summer, but had to act fast when Tottenham expressed interest in January. Liverpool then fast-tracked their interest, and brought him in six months early.

And you now can't imagine this Liverpool side without Diaz in it, and he has already contributed massively to what could be a historic season for Klopp and his squad. Diaz has already starred in the Carabao Cup final win against Chelsea, and was pivotal in Liverpool reaching the Champions League final.

Despite going into the second leg with a two-goal advantage, Villarreal stunned Liverpool and the score on aggregate was level by half-time. And Diaz was brought off the bench, and changed the game instantly, before scoring and helping Liverpool turn the game around.

And fellow Colombian and former Porto striker Jackson Martinez also praised Diaz for his graft before the winger was signed by Liverpool, and feels as though he is already in his prime. "He is an impressive player," Martinez said.

"Very hardworking, with great skills, has a goal, can assist and has impressive physical ability. He is in his prime and must take advantage of it."

Liverpool have done just that, and it makes you wonder why no one else rivalled both Tottenham and the Reds for his signature. Liverpool have now made the final in every cup competition this season, and are still on course to complete a historic quadruple.

They are just six games away from doing so, although there are still three competitions to be won, with a lot of luck needed. But should they claim any more success this season, Diaz will be a major contributor.
