Pepe Reina sends message to Alisson after he equals Liverpool record

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been congratulated by predecessor Pepe Reina after recording his 20th Premier League clean sheet of the season in Friday's win over Huddersfield .

Victory saw Jurgen Klopp's side return to the top of the Premier League table as they maintained their title push ahead of Manchester City's trip to Burnley on Sunday.

The Reds eased to a comfortable 5-0 victory at Anfield, with Naby Keita opening the scoring after just 15 seconds before Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane added two goals apiece.

Despite showing some decent flashes, already-relegated Huddersfield rarely threatened the Liverpool goal, meaning that goalkeeper Alisson was able to record his 20th Premier League clean sheet of the season.

In the process, the Brazilian became just the fifth shot-stopper to play in 20 Premier League matches without conceding in a single campaign.

He joins a star-studded list which includes Petr Cech, former Manchester United goalkeepers Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel, and Liverpool predecessor Pepe Reina, who reached the landmark during both the 2005-06 and 2008-09 campaigns.

And 36-year-old Reina, who left Liverpool in 2014, was quick to congratulate the current Liverpool stopper on his achievement.

Sharing a graphic listing Alisson's clean sheets on Twitter , he wrote: "Congrats Alisson Becker and LFC!! Let's keep it up for a couple more Fantastic on his first season!!"

With two games of the current league campaign remaining, clean sheets against both Newcastle and Wolves would see the Brazilian eclipse Reina and move to second on the list, just behind the 24 recorded by former Chelsea goalkeeper Cech during the 2004-05 season.

Liverpool paid Roma £66.8m to bring Alisson to Anfield over the summer in an attempt to introduce a more reassuring presence behind the defence.

Alongside Virgil van Dijk, Alisson has been credited as one of the main forces behind Liverpool's much-improved defence, which has conceded just 20 times in the Premier League this season.
