Pepe and Nelson shine while Balogun shows why Mikel Arteta wants to keep him - Four things we learned from Molde 0-3 Arsenal

Arsenal qualified for the Europa League Round of 32 with two games to spare with a 3-0 victory over Norwegian side Molde.

The Gunners were lucky not to go behind when Sheriff Sinyan managed to miss from just a yard out early on in the most exciting moment of a dull first half.

Mikel Arteta's side grew into the game after brake though and took a commanding lead thanks to goals from the impressive pair of Nicolas Pepe and Reiss Nelson.

Exciting youngster Folarin Balogun then made the game safe nine minutes from time, scoring with just his second touch after coming on as a substitute for Eddie Nketiah.

Molde v Arsenal: Mikel Arteta press conference

It was a positive night for Mikel Arteta's men who were able to put their poor Premier League form aside to stroll to a convincing victory.

Here are four things that football.london learned from the match.

Pepe's Arsenal career is far from over

After his petulant red card against Leeds on Sunday some were questioning whether Nicolas Pepe would ever be able to work his way back into Mikel Arteta's first team. He was handed an opportunity to redeem himself from the start tonight and grabbed it with both hands.

Before his goal the Ivorian looked the most likely for Arsenal and was denied an absolute screamer when his 30-yard strike bounced back off the underside of the bar. His goal moments later was the cherry on top of a fine performance.

It's a refreshing attitude from a clearly remorseful Pepe. The only down side is that he can't repeat this kind of a performance in the Premier League for another three matches.

Nelson is ready for the Premier League

Reiss Nelson has only played 45 minutes in the Premier League so far but will surely be in line for more after his performance in Norway.

The 20-year-old was Arsenal's brightest spark in a dull first half and fully deserved his goal early in the second. Mikel Arteta worked on getting more goals from Raheem Sterling by coaching the Manchester City winger to get into the box more often. With Nelson's movement for the Gunners' second of the night, you have to assume he's doing the same thing.

The Hale End graduate could be in line for a run in the Premier League team after Nicolas Pepe's suspension and injuries to Bukayo Saka and Willian. Regardless of that though you'd have to say he deserves a chance on form alone.

Folarin Balogun is the real deal

Mikel Arteta hopes to keep ambitious Folarin Balogun

There was plenty of talk around Flo Balogun going into tonight's game against Molde. The 19-year-old is in the subject of a highly public contract showdown and could leave for nothing in the summer if Arsenal don't sign him up to a new deal.

Speaking before the game Mikel Arteta confirmed how desperate he is to keep the striker. "He is a player that I want to stay at the club" said the Arsenal manager.

There was therefore some frustration among fans that he was only given nine minutes to show what he could do on the night. It turned out that that was all he needed. The youngster scored with just his second touch of the match, controlling Emile Smith-Rowe's pass and swivelling to fire into the net. Arsenal have some player on their hands and it would be catastrophic if they let him go for free.

Football is so much better with fans

It was confirmed today that, after a nine month absence, Arsenal will have fans back inside the Emirates Stadium for their next Europa League game against Rapid Vienna on December 3rd. It can't come soon enough.

There were only around 3,000 Molde fans in the Aker Stadium on Thursday night but it was so refreshing to hear them cheering their team on with vigour and howling at every refereeing decision against them with indignation.

Maybe it was a sign of the quality of football on show that the supporters were so noticeable, but it was good to have them back.
