Pep Lijnders explains why Takumi Minamino makes him and Jurgen Klopp say "wow"

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says Takumi Minamino's work rate everyday makes him and Jurgen Klopp say "wow".

Minamino was signed from RB Salzburg last season, and has made three appearances for the Reds this campaign, coming off the bench against Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Japan international made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Reds last campaign, and is keen to better his tally this time round.

And it seems he's on the right track to do exactly that, according to Lijnders.

"Wow - what a desire!" said the Liverpool assistant of Minamino.

"He is somebody who turns our game collective as well, the same as what Roberto [Firmino] does. His development has been outstanding - he always give everything, each day."

Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night and Minamino is in line to start against the Gunners.

Curtis Jones is also in contention to play.

Lijnders and Jurgen Klopp are pleased with what they are seeing from Minamino (PA)

Of the Englishman, Lijnders said: "He's the type we really like. So much bravery, courage, self-confidence, but with a constant focus to learn.

"He's probably one the most offensive midfielder we have. Always first to make surprise move from midfield, always first to shoot."
