Liverpool confirmed Thiago Alcantara had tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday night.
The former Bayern Munich man, who arrived at Anfield earlier this month, missed Liverpool's 3-1 Premier League win over Arsenal on Monday.
The world-class midfielder's absence followed speculation over his fitness, after he was pictured in training with Jurgen Klopp's squad on Friday.
Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders has now wished the Spain international a "speedy recovery".
He said: "Health and family are the most important things in life, after comes football.
"We wish him a speedy recovery, but I wish everyone who is fighting this virus a speedy recovery and hope everything goes well.
"We decided from the start of the pandemic that we will not make any comments about individuals or their situation, so we'll keep it like this as a club."
Lijnders also praised the structure Liverpool have in place to contain the virus and immediately stop it spreading to other players and staff at the club should someone become infected.

"It is a big compliment to our structure that we have testing in place by the Premier League and we also do private testing," he replied when asked if he was confident nobody else had contracted the virus and it hadn't spread to the rest of the Reds' squad.
"The most important thing is keeping discipline and we test immediately when something happens. It is all okay."
Liverpool have clearly followed the necessary protocols and Thiago has already started a 10-day period of self-isolation.
The club said the 29-year-old "exhibited minor symptoms of the virus" but was "in good health and is getting better".
Thiago will not be available for Liverpool's next two fixtures - the Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Arsenal at Anfield on Thursday (October 1), and the Premier League match at Aston Villa on Sunday (October 4).
Then comes the international break and it is hoped that he could be back for the trip to Everton on Saturday, October 17.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed after Monday's Carabao Cup win that Thiago would miss the next couple of matches.
"After the international break, he will be fine," said the Reds boss. “For sure and that’s the situation at the moment."
