Pep Hamilton introduced as Washington XFL coach

The Washington XFL team finally has a new head coach.

While former Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn will be coaching somewhere in the XFL, it turns out Pep Hamilton will coach the local Washington team.

“I’m excited to join the XFL and lead the team in Washington, a city with which I have a lifelong attachment,” Hamilton said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I appreciate the confidence Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck have in me, providing an opportunity to be the head coach and placing the football operations of their Washington team in my hands. We plan to put together a terrific, hard-working staff, and a great football team for fans in and around our nation’s capital.”

Hamilton was last at the NFL level in 2016 as an assistant head coach, though notably served as the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2013-15.

While the XFL doesn’t launch until September of 2020, it continues to make some waves in the Washington area at a time when the Redskins are having both performance and attendance problems.
