Pep Hamilton: 'An honor' to get hired as Michigan assistant

Michigan made it official this afternoon: Pep Hamilton is the new quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

"Pep Hamilton is a proven, outstanding football coach, husband and father," head coach Jim Harbaugh said in a released statement. "His teaching and mentoring skills have produced quality athletes and quality young men, including some of the finest quarterbacks and wide receivers in the country. We are thrilled and excited to have Pep and Nicole and their children _ April, Jackson and Elizabeth _ as members of our Michigan family."

Hamilton, 42, was working as the Cleveland Browns' associate head coach, and Browns coach Hue Jackson said Sunday that he hoped Hamilton would stay.

But Hamilton has ties to Harbaugh, having worked for him at Stanford from 2010-12, as a quarterbacks coach, receivers coach and offensive coordinator for a stretch.

"It is an honor and privilege to be part of one of the most storied programs in college football history," Hamilton said in the statement. "I look forward to working with coach Harbaugh and members of the staff at Michigan. I am excited to get to work meeting our players so that I can assist with their development on the field and in the university community."

Hamilton replaces Jedd Fisch, who was named offensive coordinator at UCLA.
