Pep Guardiola warns Man City players after Southampton win

Pep Guardiola was critical of Manchester City's finishing as they picked up a narrow 1-0 win at Southampton.

The Blues won for the first time in three games to lift themselves up the Premier League table after difficult draws with West Bromwich Albion and Manchester United had halted their momentum. Raheem Sterling swept home a Kevin De Bruyne cross before an excellent defensive effort saw them hold out for the 1-0 victory.

However, Guardiola was more concerned with his team's wastefulness in front of goal as their attacking issues continue. Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, and Kevin De Bruyne all missed decent chances to make the game more comfortable for City in the second half and left their manager unimpressed.

"Our position is to try to win games, to be up there as quick as possible and as close as possible to the top of the league but the reality is our momentum up front is not good," he said.

"Not much in the first half and the second half we could finish to close the game and we could not to do it and that's why I think we will continue to struggle this season if we don't break this situation to score goals.

"Maybe one day we unblock and the players come back in better form and we can do it.

"We had enough chances in the second half on counter attacks to score more goals but the back four were brilliant, Rodri and [Ilkay] Gundogan were brilliant as well so a good victory for us."
