Pep Guardiola wants clarity as Man City face another nervous wait over Brazilian players

Pep Guardiola called on the relevant organisations to find a solution to the international fixture chaos that almost damaged the Premier League this month.

Manchester City were one of several clubs that only found out they were able to use their South American players hours before their fixtures after a stand-off between the Brazilian FA, the UK government and the Premier League over travel restrictions and red list countries.

While an agreement was reached in the nick of time, enabling Ederson and Gabriel Jesus to feature for the Blues at Leicester, another potential storm is brewing with a week to go before the next international break and the Brazil squad set to be announced on Friday. The Selecao will travel to both Colombia and Venezuela as well as playing at home, all countries that remain on the UK red list for travel and would require ten-day quarantine on return.

City's manager explained that they do not have an issue with letting players represent their country but cautioned that there are still restrictions in place as a result of the pandemic that will need to be solved if more uncertainty is to be avoided.

"I don’t know anything. What I will say is that we are more than grateful for the Brazil players to go to their national team, like we always have been and like we always will be," he said. "The rule or the law that says you have to give them is a pleasure.

"But I don’t know if it’s going to happen, the pandemic situation all around the world is still there. Hopefully the authorities - the Premier League, the governments, the Brazilian federation - can find a solution that perfectly suits both sides. That’s what we want.

"The federations and governments just need to sit, talk and find a solution for the benefit of the players, the clubs and the Brazil national team."
