Pep Guardiola told the key to beating Tottenham Hotspur after Champions League defeat

Pep Guardiola has been sent a message by Man City supporters over which player could be key in defeating Tottenham on Saturday.

City will be looking to exact revenge on Spurs because even though the Blues won a thrilling encounter on the night on Wednesday, they were heartbreakingly knocked out of the Champions League on away goals.

It had been a whirlwind of a game, one of the best in recent memory, in which it was 2-2 after 11 minutes and 3-2 just 10 minutes later.

City looked like they had the tie won when Sergio Aguero put them ahead on aggregate but with not long remaining Fernando Llorente scored a controversial goal to bring Spurs level and ahead on away goals.

City continued to look for the winner and it seemed to all that they had found it in the 92nd minute when Raheem Sterling displayed unreal composure to skip past a tackle and fire home.

The roof flew off the Etihad but the celebrations were soon cut short in the most agonising of ways, as the goal was disallowed for offside by VAR.

Spurs managed to hold on and advanced to their first ever Champions League semi-final.

Now City must play Tottenham once again on Saturday afternoon and will have to bounce back from the heartbreak in order to keep close to Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Man City players to thank fans by paying for Wembley coaches ahead of FA Cup final

The Manchester Evening News asked City fans "Presuming Sterling and Aguero start, who should take the third attacking position against Tottenham?"

A resounding 57% of the 1,369 voters opted for Leroy Sane, who was conspicuous in his absence from the majority of the two quarter-final games.

Guardiola came in for criticism for leaving the German on the bench in London and, though he returned to the starting line-up and played well against Crystal Palace, he was once again benched in Europe.

Rio Ferdinand gives surprise verdict on Fernando Llorente's winning goal against Man City

Man City stars return to training after Tottenham Hotspur defeat as Pep Guardiola is handed key injury boost

He was only brought on in the 89th minute in the first leg and then in the 84th in the second and it has fans wondering why the mercurial forward isn't getting more game time.

Bernardo Silva came in second, claiming 40% of the vote, with Riyad Mahrez finishing third with only 2%.

So it seems that supporters think that finally starting Sane against Tottenham is the key to winning the game.
