Pep Guardiola tells "extraordinary" Danny Rose not to quit over racist abuse

Pep Guardiola has told Danny Rose he must play as long as possible and not give in to the racists.

Tottenham defender Rose said he is sick of the racism that persists in football and cannot wait to retire so he no longer has to deal with it.

But Guardiola, who will meet Rose next Tuesday when Manchester City side travel to Tottenham for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, said he will tell the full-back face-to-face that quitting is not the answer.

"Danny Rose has not to do that," said Guardiola.

"Next Tuesday I will tell him, if I see him, the best way to fight is to come back from this situation is to be, fighting every day, and he’s an extraordinary player."

Tottenham's Danny Rose so sick of football racism he can't wait to retire

Guardiola takes his City side to Wembley tomorrow for their FA Cup semi-final showdown with Brighton , where they will aim to stay on course for the unprecedented Quadruple.

The City boss confirmed star striker Sergio Aguero, who missed Wednesday's game with a hamstring injury, will travel with the squad, as will defender Benajamin Mendy, who has not played since January.

With Alex Zinchenko and Fabian Delph out, Mendy is the only fit recognised left-back at Guardiola's disposal, but the City boss said: "Everybody has to help us, not just Mendy.

"He alone can’t help us arrive in the end of April with the challenge to win something for us. He’s trained the last week or 10 days without a problem, so that is incredibly good news.

"Aguero is almost fit. He’s travelling tomorrow."
