Pep Guardiola sends Riyad Mahrez Man City message

Pep Guardiola has told Riyad Mahrez he needs to be more relaxed when he doesn't play after praising the Algerian for his attitude in training.

Mahrez has made three starts for City in all competitions this season and the City manager said the former Leicester man needs to relax more when he's not selected.

Bernardo has often been favoured over the attacker on the right hand side of City's attack and Guardiola had some advice for the 28-year-old when he's been not selected.

"He doesn't feel too much pressure, a lot of confidence in himself, in terms of making bad actions, he wants the ball, he wants to try again. That's the best detail for the players in the big clubs, he is quality, perhaps he just needs to be more relaxed when he doesn't play," Guardiola said in his pre-Watford press conference.

Mahrez made a big impression against Shakhtar but could find himself out of the team at the weekend against Watford if Guardiola decides to rotate his team again. But the City boss admitted he's impressed with Mahrez on the training pitch.

"Hopefully Leroy can be here with us but I said many times he played good last season, except the first few games. He was used to it different at Leicester, how competitive here, especially he loves to play football, the training, to be in contact with the ball he goes to the training session and wants to have fun with the ball. I like it," Guardiola added.
