Pep Guardiola sends Ole Gunnar Solskjaer positive message after Manchester United sacking

Pep Guardiola has sent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a positive message after his Manchester United rival got the sack.

The departure of the Reds boss was officially announced this morning after United slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Watford, a fortnight after Guardiola's City had dominated them in a 2-0 derby win at Old Trafford.

The Blues moved nine points ahead of their cross-town rivals with a 3-0 win over Everton, and after the game, Guardiola expressed his sympathy for the Norwegian - and pointed out one big plus from his record at United.

The Reds beat City in three of the five league meetings in which Solskjaer was in charge of United - and that was duly noted by Guardiola.

The City fans revelled in the misery across at United, chanting "Ole's on the dole" and "Carrick's at the wheel" a reference to the caretaker managership. But Guardiola expressed his regret and respect for a manager who had a good record against him.

Asked what he thought of Solskjaer's departure, Guardiola said: "I wish him all the best.

"It was a pleasure to face him - he beat me more than I wanted but he knows, like I know, that when you are in charge of a team like United, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, you have to win.

"I am still sitting here because I won. Otherwise, it would be another person sitting here. Hopefully one day we can see each other again."
