Pep Guardiola says Man City showed Ryder Cup spirit in Chelsea win

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City invoked the Ryder Cup spirit in their win over Chelsea by combining as a set of talented individuals to produce a perfect team performance.

Guardiola is a huge golf fan, and spoke before the Chelsea game that he will be watching the Ryder Cup keenly in between his preparations for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

With Europe trailing the US going into the final day by a margin never before recovered, Guardiola may not get the result he wants in the Ryder Cup, but he will be celebrating a massive three points for City on Saturday.

The Blues won 1-0 at Chelsea thanks to a deflected Gabriel Jesus effort that capped a perfect away performance at a genuine title rival.

And Guardiola clearly had the golf on his mind afterwards when speaking to BBC Sport about the character in City's performance.

"Today we play for each other, run for each other, pass the ball for each other," he said.

"So now I am watching the Ryder Cup and I see how they celebrate this individual game that they play just for themselves during 11 months or more, then comes the Ryder Cup they play for each other.

"That is nice when you play football. What you do for your mate and they do for you, the way we play was so good."
