Pep Guardiola says Man City players were not ready for Arsenal FA Cup test

Pep Guardiola was left saddened by Manchester City's FA Cup defeat as he accused his players of not turning up for the first half.

A 2-0 victory for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal ended a long unbeaten run for the Blues in domestic cups stretching back to February 2018 and leaves them with the Champions League as the only remaining trophy they can win this season.

Guardiola was less bothered with the fact that his team were beaten as the manner of the defeat, with his team not showing what he wanted from them at a critical point.

Stressing the importance of the occasion, the City manager said that his side failed to turn up for it before it was too late.

"We were not good, we didn't play good. It's as simple as that. These players have shown many things in the right moments and today in the first half we were not ready," he said.

"The details in general we were there in the throw-ins and corners and whatever. The situation is we didn't play in the first half, we struggled to be there in the game in the semi-final of the FA Cup. That's why we lost the game.

"If we had played the first half in the way we approached and were aggressive with our desire like the second maybe the game would have been different but we could not do it.

"You can lose a game but the way we lost, especially in the first half, we are sad about this."
