Pep Guardiola says Man City know exactly how to kill off Manchester United title hopes

Pep Guardiola is on countdown to Manchester City winning the Premier League title.

Their relentless run to the trophy was halted on Sunday by Manchester United, who became the first team to take points off them in 22 games with a 2-0 win that reduces the gap at the top of the table back to 11 points.

As the Blues take a moment to reflect on what they have achieved so far, it is an appropriate time to look at what is still to come. City's manager has stressed that the approach be one game at a time for the last few months, but with ten games to go the finish line is in sight.

Guardiola is refusing to rule United out of the title race, but also knows exactly how many points his team will need from their final run of matches in order to ensure they cannot be caught at the top.

"What happened can happen but of course we have to react quick because when you arrive in last 10 games you are counting down. We are close to the end, everybody knows it," he said.

Pep Guardiola's reaction to Manchester derby defeat

"Of course [United can still win the title]. When the option is open, everything can happen. Nobody expected us to win 21 games in a row so anything can happen. People like United can do it. Ten games left and we have to win six or seven to be champions mathematically, and tomorrow we’ll try to win the first one.

"When you lose against United, what happened in the game we were more than good, but they’re a top club, good manager and players and can happen. It's football.

"What we have to do is focus and be ready to be who we are.

"That’s what I’m concerned about. With this, we’ll continue to win games."
