Pep Guardiola says Man City are Premier League legends after sealing 'best' title

Pep Guardiola has hailed Manchester City as Premier League legends after sealing their fourth title in five years.

Guardiola must have thought the title was heading to Liverpool when Aston Villa took a two-goal lead at the Etihad, but a stunning City comeback led by substitutes Ilkay Gundogan and Aleks Zinchenko sealed the league in stunning circumstances.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola declared his fourth title as the best of the lot - mainly because City could win it at home in front of fans - something they have not been able to do under his management until this season.

"It was definitely not [easy], the last game always special, always emotional," he said. "The moment we found a goal changes everything."

"I said at half time it's normal, we are playing not normal circumstance but you have to handle. If you put the ball inside, Aleks gives us a lot. The second goal Coutinho makes it very difficult, it was momentum and our people did the rest. The moment we score and equalise, I had the feeling we'd have the chance to score."

Reflecting on his legacy at City, Guardiola hailed City as Premier League legends who will go down in history.

"Wow, we are legends," he said. "When you win in this country, four in five years, it's because these guys are so special, we will be remembered.

"The first time 100pts at Southampton, second in Brighton, third we fight without people, wow, winning at home with our people is the best."

And Guardiola explained why he turned to Gundogan when City were behind rather than Jack Grealish - with his decision proving to be inspired.

"Ilkay Gundo is the best runner in the second position we have, we arrive in the sides with Phil, Joao, Aleks, other people with a sense of tempo in te final third, he's the best."
