Pep Guardiola says Liverpool FC have taught Man City one big lesson this season

Pep Guardiola has pinpointed the main lesson Manchester City can learn from rivals Liverpool.

The Blues will give the new Premier League champions a guard of honour before the teams meet at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow night.

Jurgen Klopp’s team took the title in record time, completing their triumph with seven games to spare, after City had won it two years on the bounce.

Guardiola was today asked what City have learned from the way they were left standing by a breathtaking run from the Mersysiders

He replied: “First of all, that a team was better, who play at an outstanding level in every single game - and we have to do more.

“Football helps you to understand an incredible education that another one was better and you have to try to reduce this gap.

“From the last game Newcastle, tomorrow, and in the future, to work harder and do better.”

Guardiola detailed some of the reasons why City failed to keep pace with Liverpool last week, including the fact that the loss of Aymeric Laporte through injury for most of the campaign had been a practical reason.

But he reiterated that the differences between the two teams are minimal, despite the large points gap and said that they know what to do to close that gap next season.

“Many details, not just one,” he said when asked why there had been such a gap. “I think we are not far away but you have to do a little bit more.”
