Pep Guardiola says Ederson Golden Glove award shows what Man City coaches already knew

Pep Guardiola said that Ederson gets the credit he deserves from within the Manchester City camp, even if his ability is not always recognised more widely.

The Brazil international made three important saves to keep his 16th clean sheet of the season – and clinch the Premier League ’s Golden Glove award as Burnley’s Nick Pope conceded twice on the final day.

Ederson was presented with the award on the pitch, alongside Kevin de Bruyne getting the league’s Playmaker of the Year trophy for the second time in three years.

And while Ederson is second choice for his country behind Liverpool ace Alisson, and is also often an anonymous figure when City totally dominate opponents, Guardiola said his contribution is recognised internally.

Ederson has become better known for his ability with his feet, but his one-on-one stops to deny the Canaries showed there is much more to his game.

On the Golden Glove award, Guardiola said: “So nice, but I think he deserves it.

“He made two incredible saves, without him it would not be possible.

“It was really good that he made a really good season and I think those two saves he deserves what he’s done.

“Internally we give Eddie incredible credit as a keeper. And we are so happy for this award.”
