Pep Guardiola's verdict on Daniel James ahead of Manchester United transfer

James netted six times in his 38 games for Swansea City last season and his performances throughout the season won admirers.

One of those was Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. He came up against James during their FA Cup tie with Swansea City in March.

James was able to demonstrate his electrifying pace against the Premier League champions as Swansea raced into a 2-0 lead.

BT Sport pundit John Hartson suggested that James was worth “double” than what Leeds United were set to pay for him in January, after his dazzling display.

City managed to secure progression in the competition with three second half goals but Guardiola was impressed with what he witnessed.

Speaking after the game he said: "They had courage to play and they played good.

"(Daniel) James is incredibly fast, so it's not easy. We knew that, we spoke about it."

Man City had been linked with a move for the Welsh international but it's United who are expected to land the highly-rated youngster.
