Pep Guardiola's touching tribute during Manchester City trophy parade

Pep Guardiola paid a touching tribute to late Manchester City Life President Bernard Halford during the club’s trophy parade on Monday night.

City’s ‘Fourmidables’ - as they have been dubbed by the club - boarded open-top buses as they celebrated their 2018-19 accomplishments with fans on the streets of Manchester.

Stars dressed down for the occasion, in club tracksuits and specially-designed T-shirts listing their achievements.

But boss Guardiola, who has led the club to the FA Cup, League Cup and Premier League - as well as the Community Shield - this season, paired them with a tartan flat cap in tribute to Halford, who died in March at the age of 77.

Guardiola revealed outside Manchester Cathedral that the hat indeed previously belonged to a man dubbed 'Mr. Manchester City', and that it had been handed to the Spaniard as a gift by his wife.

“One week ago, Bernard’s wife gave me this present,” revealed the City chief. “And I said we’re going to celebrate the Premier League [And] I’ll wear it for Bernard.”

The parade was a final opportunity for City fans to pay tribute to outgoing skipper Vincent Kompany before his testimonial.

The Belgian defender announced on Sunday that he is leaving the club after 11 years to return to his homeland as player-manager of boyhood club Anderlecht.

Guardiola paid his own tribute to the 33-year-old, stating: “I think Vincent, we are going to miss him a lot.

"I think it’s an incredible way to say we are going to see him in the future. He’s coming back sooner or later.

"It’s an incredible way to say goodbye. He’s a real captain.”

The ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss also praised his backroom staff.

“Without them this is impossible. A lot we cannot do. The players [and] I cannot do it alone. We push each other. They are my right arm and brain. It’s better to do it all together."

When asked about whether he was already giving thought to next season, Guardiola added: "Zero! Now is time to have good dinners, good wine and enjoy this incredible season together.

"In a few weeks, one month, we will think about it. Now is the time to enjoy.”
