Pep Guardiola's pre-match assessment of Adama Traore proved right vs Man City

Pep Guardiola joked before Manchester City's costly defeat to Wolves that dangerman Adama Traore was 'impossible' to stop.

Guardiola had seen Traore score twice as City were beaten 2-0 at the Etihad earlier in the season against Wolves, and moved to counter his pace by including Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker to the side at Molineux.

Initially, City appeared to be containing Traore's threat, and went into a 2-0 lead despite having Ederson sent off early on.

But Traore led the home side to a remarkable comeback as he scored Wolves' first goal five minutes after Raheem Sterling had doubled Sterling's lead.

The winger picked up the ball in a central position, advanced, and fired low under Claudio Bravo. He then helped draw Wolves level as he dispossessed Benjamin Mendy on the byline before squaring for Raul Jimenez to slot home. Matt Doherty completed the comeback on 89 minutes to complete the double over City.

Wolves often sent the ball out to Traore to make things happen against the ten men of City, and his impact will not have come of any surprise to Guardiola as he discussed the frontman in his pre-match interview with Amazon Prime.

When asked how to stop Traore, Guardiola joked: "He is a motorcycle! It’s almost impossible. Nobody can handle this pace.”

Traore has now scored five goals this season in the Premier League, with three coming against City.
