Pep Guardiola's Nathan Ake transfer stance will delight Chelsea fans

Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake is not a target for Manchester City in the January transfer window according to Pep Guardiola.

The Dutchman joined the Cherries from Chelsea in 2017 after having spent time on loan on the south coast under Eddie Howe the previous season.

A youngster brought to west London in 2011 to add to the talent in the west London club's academy, he made 17 appearances in all competitions, and even played five times under Antonio Conte in 2017.

Guardiola's side have been short in defence for most of the season after Aymeric Laporte sustained a knee injury back in August.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have also missed games to force midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri to drop back and play as makeshift centre-backs at times this season.

City had been tipped to try and sign Ake in January to ease their selections problems at the back with Chelsea also rumoured to be considering a move for the 24-year-old.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Arsenal, Guardiola ruled out doing any business in the window transfer window.

"No, it’s not an issue," he told the Manchester Evening News . "We don’t speak about that. With these players we started the season, we are going to finish the season.

"If something I think is going to happen, it will be in summer time."

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has also discussed the possibility of bringing Ake back to Stamford Bridge in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Bournemouth.

"He has done fantastically well at Bournemouth," said the former midfielder turned manager.

"In terms of the back four, I am very happy with the defence. We have to worry about Bournemouth tomorrow and the other games before the window opens."

In Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma in his squad, the Blues boss is hardly short of options.
