Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart for the big role he played in helping establish Man City as one of Europe's top clubs.
Qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 2011 after finishing third in the Premier League table, City have spent the past decade trying to reach the final of Europe's premier competition.
On Tuesday evening they did eventually manage that feat after beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to seal a 4-1 aggregate win.
Guardiola's team will now face either Chelsea or Real Madrid in the showpiece finale in Istanbul at the end of the month.
Their previous best in the competition before Tuesday evening was reaching the semi-finals in the 2015/16 campaign, with the last three seasons seeing them knocked out at the quarter-final stage, including in 2019 when Tottenham famously progressed to the final four despite a 4-3 defeat on the night in Manchester.
Speaking to the media after their triumph over the French side, Guardiola was keen to acknowledge the efforts of some of City's key players over the past decade and namechecked Hart after helping the club get into their current position in world football.
"Absolutely [it's a historic evening]," he said after their 2-0 win, as reported by Man City's official website. "Big memories for all the players and all the people who have made this club big - Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee - many, many of them.
"Congratulations to the owners who took over the club and tried to invest and support. People believe it is just about money. If they want to believe that, okay, but it is not just that, it is all departments and the facilities we have.
"Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta - many players who help get us in this position now. It belongs to them and I am pretty sure they will support us in three weeks.
"I am so proud of the guys. We have done an amazing Champions League and we are there."
