Pep Guardiola reveals reason behind Nathan Ake form as Man City legend lauds Julian Alvarez

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Thursday, March 23.

Guardiola explains how 'karma' is behind Ake's Man City form

Nathan Ake is reaping the rewards for working hard when he wasn't playing for Manchester City last season, manager Pep Guardiola says.

Ake was on the fringes for the first two seasons at City, but has this year established himself as first choice at left-back. His form has forced Joao Cancelo to seek a loan move away to Bayern Munich, and no defender has made more appearances than Ake this season.

Guardiola has previously praised Ake for his model attitude whenever he was out of the team, and has expanded on that idea to claim that the Dutchman has now earned his 'karma' for his hard work over the last two years.

"These types of players play good because when they were not playing, they were always the most generous, with the most commitment for the club," Guardiola told Sky Sports. "When this happens, you do not have regrets because you are prepared. In that period when you were not playing, you were preparing, not finding excuses, not complaining about other situations apart from yourself. You were training to improve, to learn what the team needs, what the manager wants, what you can do better."

Man City legend Sergio Aguero makes Julian Alvarez prediction

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero believes that Julian Alvarez still needs time to settle in European football but that he is showing all the signs of being successful at the Etihad Stadium.

The 2022/23 campaign has been Alvarez's first in Europe having officially moved to Manchester in the summer from River Plate. While Erling Haaland's exploits have earned a lot of plaudits, the 23-year-old has impressed when given the opportunity.

So far, Alvarez has managed 12 goals in 34 appearances for the Blues including a brace last Saturday as City beat Burnley 6-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals. His hard work since arriving at the club was rewarded earlier this month when the forward was handed a bumper new deal with the Blues.

Discussing his fellow countryman's time at the Etihad so far, Aguero told City's official website about how pleased he has been with the forward. He explained: "I think he’s developing very well. He arrived in the team only very recently, and it’s his first experience in Europe."
