Pep Guardiola reveals Man City transfer stance on Manchester United signing Bruno Fernandes

Pep Guardiola said Manchester City had no interest in signing Bruno Fernandes before the Portuguese midfielder joined Manchester United.

Fernandes has impressed at United since his £47million switch from Sporting Lisbon in January, but before that move he had been linked with a host of Europe's biggest clubs.

City were one of those reported to have an interest in the 25-year-old, who has scored three times in his first seven games for United, but Guardiola said that was agent talk and that the club didn't make a move for Fernandes .

"I said many times it looks like we are linked with a thousand million players every month. So I don’t know if the agents want to create something to do that," Guardiola said.

"But I think the club was not in talks with his agent about this player, but they link this guy and a thousand million more."

Fernandes' arrival at Old Trafford has helped United to an upturn in form and they are now nine games unbeaten since a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Burnley.

It was suggested to Guardiola that the playmaker is the type of player he enjoys managing, but that was a stance the City boss questioned.

"I don’t know what it means ‘my type of player.’ I like defenders too and good headers. I don’t believe too much that these players are perfect for this manager. I think he is an exceptional player that is why Man United bought him," he said.
