Pep Guardiola responds to Maurizio Sarri handshake snub after Man City hammer Chelsea

Pep Guardiola insisted Maurizio Sarri didn’t see him after appearing to ignore the Manchester City manager’s offer of a post-match handshake.

Chelsea were taken apart at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with Sergio Aguero hitting his 11th Premier League hat-trick with Raheem Sterling (x2) and Ilkay Gundogan on the score sheet.

As the final whistle went, Sarri headed straight down the tunnel, appearing to ignore a slightly-bemused Guardiola, who instead shook hands with Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola.

The City boss however played down the incident, telling Sky Sports: "He didn't see me. I have a good relationship with him, no problem."

On Sarri, he added: "They beat us at Stamford Bridge. Against Napoli last season it was tight at times... people don't understand how difficult it is [to play this way]... it only depends on the belief of the owners."

City return to the top of the Premier League ahead of Liverpool having played one game more than the Merseysiders.

Chelsea meanwhile have now conceded 10 times in their last two away games in the league without reply, shipping four at Bournemouth 11 days ago.

Conceding six today sees them drop to sixth in the Premier League table, behind Arsenal on goal difference.
