Pep Guardiola refuses to rule Sergio Aguero out of Man City vs Liverpool

Sergio Aguero could return for Manchester City against Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.

Aguero has missed City's last two games after suffering an injury in their 1-1 draw at West Ham on October 24.

City's all-time record goalscorer will not be fit to face Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But boss Pep Guardiola refused to rule him out of returning for Sunday's huge clash with the champions.

Asked if Aguero could face Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola said: “Right now we don’t know. He’s getting better, but we don’t know.

“We don’t want him to take a step back again, but he’s getting better.

“It’s not so dangerous, like when he felt something in the last game, the West Ham game.

“So he’s getting better. I don’t know about Liverpool, but after the international break, for sure he’ll be ready.”

In the absence of Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, Guardiola went with Ferran Torres up front, flanked by Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling, for Saturday's win at Sheffield United, a move he could repeat tomorrow.

Guardiola said: “We're awaiting Sergio, but we’ve been happy with Ferran, so we have an alternative.”

City currently top their Champions League group, having won at home to Porto and in Marseille last week.

Victory over the Greek side will put them in a commanding position at the halfway stage, as they continue their quest to land Europe's biggest prize for the first time.
