Pep Guardiola reacts to reports he could quit Man City next season

Pep Guardiola has denied reports that he could quit Manchester City at the end of next season.

It has been claimed that the Blues boss was thinking of cutting short his current contract – which runs until 2021 – if City win the Champions League next season.

The reports claim that Guardiola is finding the intensity of managing City every bit as tough as he did when he left Barcelona in 2012, and took a year out of management.

He cited mental fatigue and the pressure of managing Barcelona – with all its internal politics - as main reasons for spending a year living in New York before taking up the reins at Bayern Munich.

But Guardiola has repeatedly said that he is happy at City, and values the support and unity he gets at the club. That was a big reason for signing a new three-year deal in May, 2018, the completion of which would mean he has stayed in Manchester longer than at either of his previous clubs.

After all the nonsense about him going to Juventus, the new story was given short shrift by Guardiola, who is taking a break in Barcelona, where he is taking part in the Costa Brava Legends golf tournament.

Asked whether he is planning a sabbatical at the end of next season, Guardiola replied: “I will not take a sabbatical.

“The news comes out, is repeated and is not contrasted. I have two years of contract and, if they do not kick me out, I will continue.”
