Pep Guardiola reacts to Gabriel Jesus comeback for Man City

Gabriel Jesus delighted Pep Guardiola with his return to the Manchester City team and goal off the bench.

The Brazilian striker has been missing since the opening match in September where he suffered a leg injury that has kept him out up to this point, with his absence exacerbated by Sergio Aguero being out for more or less the same period.

Guardiola has admitted that his team needs to score more goals and they struggled again in the Champions League home encounter with Olympiacos, failing to threaten Jose Sa's goal in the first half after Ferran Torres's opening strike despite enjoying so much of the ball.

As his team came under pressure from an improved performance from the visitors after the break, the manager threw on Jesus for the final 25 minutes and was rewarded soon after when the forward lashed home from a tight angle to make the game safe.

As well as securing a third win that leaves the Blues sitting pretty at the halfway point of their Champions League group, Jesus has improved the options available to the manager ahead of the home game with Liverpool on Sunday.

"It was important of course," he said. "The fact he’s back is so important and good news, especially for the striker to score a brilliant goal. There were good things tonight, I'm delighted with most parts of the game and happy that Gabriel is back."
