Pep Guardiola provides Mikel Arteta update amid Arsenal manager links

Pep Guardiola says Mikel Arteta will be part of Manchester City's travelling party heading to Oxford United for Wednesday's Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Arteta is being strongly linked with the vacant managerial position at Arsenal , with Gunners officials even pictured outside his house in the early hours of Monday morning having held talks with the City No.2.

Guardiola has previously said that he won't stand in Arteta's way should he wish to take the job at the Emirates, but he was less forthcoming about his future at a press conference on Tuesday.

When asked if there was any update on Arteta, Guardiola simply said no, before then confirming that his No.2 will be travelling with the team to face the League One side on Wednesday.

He then added: "When we were so smart to pick him up and other clubs want him. He’s an incredible person. A good manager, good work ethic that’s why he’s with us.

"He’s talking with Arsenal so I don’t know what’s going to happen."

City were known to be angry with Arsenal for scheduling the meeting with Arteta, which surprisingly took place back in Manchester when the Gunners had faced the Blues in a Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.

Guardiola said he was aware of that meeting despite the club claiming they weren't.

"He was incredibly honest and transparent with me," said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

"The club is always live. People here today, and then maybe tomorrow are not here.

"Now he is part of our group and staff and stays here. When we have any new news I will know it and you will know it. He trained today and that’s all."
