Pep Guardiola provides Man City injury update on Aymeric Laporte

Pep Guardiola hopes Aymeric Laporte will be available to play West Ham next week after the Frenchman was missing for Manchester City's trip to Tottenham.

Laporte made his long-awaited return from injury at Sheffield United last month, but has since been absent for the last three games against Fulham, Manchester United and now Spurs.

Before the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Guardiola had said Laporte was suffering from Laporte, saying on Friday: "He’s OK, he had a fatigue, not injured. We didn’t want to take a risk, maybe Spurs, but in case he couldn’t play hopefully he’ll be OK for West Ham."

Laporte was then not spotted with the City squad travelling to London and was then not named in the matchday squad on Sunday.

Speaking before the game, Guardiola said City were positive about Laporte's fitness and would assess him before the West Ham game next week.

"He's much, much, much better," Guardiola told Sky Sports.

"Hopefully he can come back against West Ham. We will see this week. We have a long week to prepare for the West Ham game next Sunday so we will see how he is."

There was less positive news on John Stones, though, as he was left out of the squad for rotation reasons. Stones was another player not spotted with the travelling squad along with Laporte and Benjamin Mendy - although Mendy was later spotted at the Spurs game despite not being involved.
